Want a postcard from London with a really cool postmark? Get your order in before the 15th of September! [UPDATE – We had to pull out of this one as we had so much to do – Sorry!]
Description
[UPDATE 14 August – We bit off a little more than we could chew with this one. We’ve still got a load to do and Andy’s brother is moving house so we had to pull out of this one. The meetup is still going ahead, but we won’t be there. :-(]
On Sunday 15th August, Andy and Elena will be hosting a mailart and letter-writing meetup in London. This is the second mailart meetup of the year and is hosted as part of the British Postal Museum and Archives mailart open day, which Andy has been asked to present at!
The day runs from 10-4 at the BPMA museum collection store. This “hidden gem” of London’s postal history houses an array of marvellous objects which bring to life the story of the postal service. Highlights include pillar box alley – showing some of the earliest letter boxes trialled in the UK to modern designs and prototypes – and a superb fleet of postal service vehicles.
The meetup is free of charge and anyone is invited to come – just RSVP at the Meetup Group page for the day and let us know you’re coming.
If you can’t make it though, here’s a very limited edition treat for the postal geek in you. The BPMA has it’s very own postmark, which you can see in the picture for this item. The postmark is the marking on an envelope or postcard that tells you when the postal service received a letter into it’s care. Only certain places are authorised to issue postmarks and some postmarks are cooler than others.
As I’m only there for one day, you can be the owner of your very own BPMA-postmarked postcard, but you’d better be quick. Get your order in before the 14th September!
